“My house is cluttered and I don’t know where to start!”
It can be overwhelming to tackle your whole house at once and there is no reason to stress yourself out when the endgame is peace and tranquility. You can take things one step at a time to start decluttering your home and create the space of your dreams. Here are 5 places to start when you feel like you need a little refresh in your home.
Get rid of old food-storage containers: You know how it goes; you order take out and want to reduce your waste, so you wash out the containers and throw them in your cabinet. Next thing we know, we’ve collected far too many containers with hardly matching lids that we will almost never use. Get down to the basics. Toss any old take-out containers, saving maybe 2 of each size for leftovers and lunches.
Clear out your expired spices: Who’s placing bets? We can almost guarantee that there are at least a few spices in your cabinets or drawers that have expired dates on them. You’ve probably already even replaced them by now! Get rid of old spices and start fresh. Your space, and recipes, will be glad you did.
Get rid of mismatched towels and linens: When it really comes down to it, we only need 2 sets of linens for each bedroom. Think, one while in use, and one for replacing while doing laundry. That’s it! We like to think we need variety but in reality 2 sets for each room is more than enough. We know, separation is hard, just pick your favorites and donate the rest! You can donate your extra linens to local animal rescues /shelters or anywhere that will contribute bedsheets to a family in need. You know those mismatched towels you keep on hand “just in case?” Those can go too! Think about the last time you actually used them and remember, it’s okay to part with things you don’t need.
Go through your desk: There are always inevitably papers spilling all over your bills that need to be paid, and sometimes we like to abide by the ‘out-of-sight-out-of-mind’ mentality. Get rid of old pens, toss paperwork that may be older than 5-years, and start your month fresh and with clarity.
Donate your reusable bags! We all have an abundance of reusable shopping bags that have been collected over the past few years. Every food pantry can take your reusable bags and repurpose them for grocery pickup in the community. Nothing feels better than clearing out your closet and knowing that you are making a difference, one reusable bag at a time.
